MINNA Yu also known as “Nana,” who is accused of possessing and selling methamphetamine, collapsed during a preliminary hearing Thursday before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho.
The Office of the Attorney General has charged Yu, 46, with two counts of illegal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of trafficking an illegal substance.
The defendant appeared at the hearing in the custody of the Department of Corrections and was represented by Assistant Public Defender Tyler Scott with Dennis Tse as interpreter.
While a witness was on the stand for direct examination, the defendant’s counsel requested a break, saying his client “looked ill and has collapsed on the floor,” Judge Camacho stated.
CNMI Marshals were called to assist Department of Corrections officers until the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported the defendant to the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation for further evaluation, the judge added.
He thanked the court Marshals, Corrections officers and DFEMS for their quick response.
The judge continued the hearing to Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. and rescheduled the arraignment for Aug. 8 at 9 a.m. before Presiding Judge Roberto C. Naraja.
Judge Camacho imposed a $100,000 cash bail on the defendant at a bail hearing on July 21, 2022.
The defendant was arrested following two “buy-walk” operations conducted by the Department of Public Safety-Drug Enforcement Task Force in May 2022.
An informer positively identified Yu as the individual selling methamphetamine on two occasions.
Yu sold $600 worth of methamphetamine, police said.
