President Johnson Toribiong in his press conference told reporters that he will issue an Executive Order, which will state that the AGO will not be under the MOJ’s jurisdiction.
He said the order will restructure the AGO and it will not fall under the MOJ.Toribiong said the AGO will be under the President’s Office and will serve its function as legal advisors to all ministries.Toribiong said that the past set up was that the Attorney General report or receives instruction from the Justice Minister.The Executive Order he said will clarify the functions of the AGO. The Attorney General is the chief legal counsel to the executive branch of Palau’s government and provides legal services to the President and all of the Ministers in the Republic of Palau, as well as bureaus and other agencies.
