Immigration Director Jenkins Mariur said approximately 2,000 alien workers, including 20 overstaying workers, have been registered at the office since the start of alien registration on August 16 up to the present.
Mariur is reminding once again all the illegal and legal aliens to come and register before September 30. A penalty of $5 per day will be imposed for failure to register on time.
For illegal aliens with Labor and Immigration violations who want to take advantage of the Amnesty program, Mariur said they must come in and register at the BOI. If they fail to do so, they may face penalty and possible deportation.
Mariur said the registration is open from Monday to Friday at the Civic Center. But he said there will be no more weekend schedule following the slow turnout on September 5.
Meanwhile, the BOI believes that the Senate won’t stop the ongoing alien registration.
The Director said majority of the Senate do not agree with the proposed resolution. The Court is the only one which can void the alien registration scheme.
Earlier, a Senate Joint Resolution was introduced by Sen. Adalbert Eledui, proposing to stop the immigration registration. Eledui said the president’s directive is unconstitutional.
During the senate deliberation of the proposed resolution last week, four senators have been outvoted by their colleagues.
Senators Eledui, Surangel Whipps Jr, Reynold Oilouch and Tommy Remengesau wanted to take the resolution out of the Judiciary and Governmental Affairs Committee chaired by Sen. Joel Toribiong, which will be discussed on the floor. However, majority of the senators rejected the move.
