behalf of the Palau Embassy in Taipei to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Francisco Ou, expressing sympathy and condolences to the victims of Typhoon Morakot that recently devastated parts of the country, leaving over 120 dead, 1,300 missing and thousands homeless.
Along with the letter, Ambassador Henry also donated $500 to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be utilized toward the typhoon relief efforts. The $500 donation came from the Ambassador’s own personal resources.“ROC-Taiwan is a very close alley and friend of Palau so we feel their pain during their time of calamity. It is not the amount of the donation I made on behalf of Palau but the symbolic gesture expressing our sympathy the counts most. Our hearts goes out to the people of Taiwan during their time of sorrow”, says Ambassador Henry.More than 60 countries have since come forth with assistance and letters of sympathy to Taiwan, however, Palau was one of the first countries to come forth with its cash donation and letter of sympathy.
