HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Sen. Dwayne San Nicolas has introduced Bill 224-37, a measure to add spouses of active duty service members to the section of law that waives driver’s license fees for veterans and their extended beneficiaries.
“Spouses of active duty service members will not have to worry about paying fees for a Guam driver’s license should a bill, authored by Democrat Senator Dwyane T.D. San Nicolas, become local law,” San Nicolas’ office stated in a press release.
According to the senator, the bill will bring Guam in compliance with a federal law, the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act.
“Active duty service member spouses should have been exempted from fees when obtaining a motor vehicle driver’s license on the island a long time ago and that’s what this measure will authorize,” San Nicolas said in the release.
San Nicolas leads the legislative Committee on Emergency Response, Military and Veteran Affairs, Border Safety and Mayors Council.
