(Liberation Day Committee) — The wait is over! The public is warmly invited to join the opening of the 79th Liberation Day Festivities, beginning tonight, Thursday, June 12 at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center in Susupe. The month-long celebration will continue every Thursday through Sunday until July 6, bringing families, visitors, and residents together to honor our shared history, celebrate freedom, and enjoy the very best of local culture, cuisine, and entertainment.
“Liberation Day holds great historical and emotional significance for our community. It is a solemn occasion that commemorates the sacrifices and resilience of the people of the Northern Mariana Islands during World War II, particularly honoring the memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and peace. As we celebrate this milestone, we also remember the strength and unity that have brought our people forward from tragedy to hope,” said Saipan Mayor Ramon RB Camacho.
Liberation Day Committee Chair Frances Santos, for her part, added, “This celebration is deeply personal for all of us. Our team has poured their hearts into every detail to honor the strength of our people, our culture, and our history. We can’t wait to share this special time with our families, our veterans, our visitors, and everyone who holds this island close to their hearts. It’s going to be something truly unforgettable.”
This year’s festivities will feature a dynamic lineup of entertainers performing live music and cultural showcases throughout. Attendees can enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of the islands, with local food vendors, artisan booths, and a dedicated beverage oasis offering refreshment. Family-friendly attractions and amusement are also available at the grounds.
One of the most anticipated events is the Liberation Day Parade, scheduled for Friday, July 4. The parade will begin at Quartermaster Road and proceed south to the carnival grounds in Susupe. Leading this year’s parade as grand marshal is Robert “Bob” Jones, a visionary entrepreneur, community advocate, and founder of the now 40-year-old Triple J Enterprises.
Mayor Camacho is very much looking forward to bringing the community together, especially the municipalities of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota represented by the Royal Court candidates. These young women — Teresita Arriola Diaz, Pritzel Carreon, Kaypeonie Marie Mendiola, Debbiann Marjorie Selepeo, and Aunika Camacho — are leading the fundraising efforts through the sale of raffle tickets and participation at various events throughout the year.
The Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Liberation Day Committee extend their deepest appreciation to this year’s major sponsors: Marianas Variety News & Views, Triple J Corporation, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and Marpac Distributors, as well as numerous in-kind sponsors and raffle prize donors whose generosity makes this celebration possible.
Festival grounds will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Come early, bring your friends and family, and be part of this meaningful celebration!
The committee also welcomes more sponsors to make celebrations bigger and better. Contact cnmiliberation670@gmail.com/.
Let’s come together to honor the past, celebrate our freedom, and move forward in peace. See you at the festivities!
