(GMS) — Green Meadow School held its annual Parents Summit on March 8, 2025, at the Hibiscus Hall of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan.
The event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., welcomed a total of 129 attendees and focused on fire and traffic safety, first aid, and parenting in the digital age, featuring expert speakers from the Department of Public Safety, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and the Instructional Technology & Distance Education Office of the Public School System.
The summit opened with remarks from the current PTSA president, Dr. Tai Doram, and Green Meadow School Principal Milagros M. Songcuan.
DPS representatives provided essential traffic safety reminders, covering topics such as child car seat safety, proper seat selection, and damage checks. They also introduced a program that assists families by covering 50% of the cost of a child seat. Additionally, the discussion included pedestrian safety awareness and responsible driving near crosswalks.
The DFEMS Fire Prevention Team educated attendees on common fire safety practices, emphasizing electrical safety, household burning permits, and the importance of having functional fire extinguishers at home. The DFEMS Emergency Medical Services team conducted a live demonstration of the Heimlich maneuver for both adults and infants and discussed immediate response first-aid procedures.
The ITDE Team, led by Director Dr. Lorraine Catienza, Instructional Technology Coach Dr. Riya Nathrani, and Enrollment and Data Specialist Kevin De Torres, highlighted the importance of managing screen time and utilizing parental control features available on digital devices. Their presentation also covered online safety tips, strategies for reducing and controlling one’s digital footprint, and the value of fostering family time over excessive screen use.
Closing remarks were delivered by School President Glenn Samuel M. Songcuan, who commended the collaborative efforts of the guest speakers and the school community in promoting a safer and more informed environment for students and their families.
