(MVA) — A trio of tourism partners took to the beach on Thursday, April 24, to clean one of The Marianas’ most popular dive site, Laulau Beach.

Representatives of the Northern Marianas Diving Operators Association, the Saipan Mayor’s Office, and the Marianas Visitors Authority conducted brush clearing and trash pickup at the site, which is frequented by hundreds of divers a year.

“Thanks to this week’s collaborative effort, Laulau is now cleaner and more beautiful to enjoy for both our visitors and residents,” said MVA Community Projects Manager Martin Duenas. “The brush clearing also makes the area more accessible and visible, improving safety for those who want to enjoy the beach and waters. We sincerely thank NMDOA and Saipan Mayor R.B. Camacho and his team for their support and partnership.”

Duenas said the Saipan Mayor’s Office is also making some improvements to the road leading from Laulau Beach to Kagman.

The Marianas Tourism Month cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, May 24. Groups and individuals are encouraged to clean up around their businesses, homes, streets, or favorite beach hangouts, or join MVA and industry partners for a cleanup at Makaka Beach south of Crowne Plaza Resort Saipan at 8 a.m.
