Showcasing student and faculty research

(NMC) — The Northern Marianas College Science, Math, Health, and Athletics Department alongside Project PROA hosted the 4th Annual Research Symposium, showcasing a diverse range of research projects conducted by NMC students, NMC faculty, and members of the community.

NMC would like to congratulate Christopher Pangelinan and Kianna Reyes for being awarded the best poster presentation at this year’s Research Symposium. Their research, titled “Shoreline Monitoring of Saipan’s West-Facing Beaches,” focused on a study using rod-and-level surveys that found west-facing Saipan beaches showing a mix of stability, erosion, and accretion, with areas near tourist hubs experiencing more erosion while some areas showing signs of sediment build-up.

This year, 19 students and a faculty member presented their individual research projects covering a wide range of topics such as environmental science, communication, cultural studies, education, and mental health.

This event attracted over 150 attendees and fostered a spirit of research and innovation within the NMC community, preparing students to be future leaders!

Congratulations to all the students who presented and a big thanks to all the faculty research mentors who assisted in their research.

A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Dr. Steven Mana’oakamai Johnson.
