Compact Road in Ngaraard cleaned in a day

Governor Laurentino Ulechong, the traditional leaders of the state’s villages, and members of the state’s legislature put out an announcement last week to inform citizens of Ngaraard State about the Compact Road beautification activity in preparation for Palau’s Independence celebration.

According to Esebei er a Ibedchang Cristobal Teliu, the clean up of the Compact Road within the jurisdiction of the state was divided amongst the 5 main villages of the state.“The villages of Chol and Chelab were assigned to clean a section of the Compact Road from the boundary line that separates Ngarchelong and Ngaraard to the bridge at Urung Dock,” Teliu said. “The villages of Ngebuked, Ulimang, and Ngkeklau worked from the bridge to boundary lines that separate Ngaraard from the states of Ngiwal and Ngardmau.”Teliu said that he is very pleased with the outcome of the clean up. “With the right people and a common goal so much can be accomplished in a short period of time,” Teliu said. “In less than 12 hours, we managed, with very limited resources, to clean all of the Compact Road that runs through our state.”Teliu further added that Jennifer Sugiyama-Yano’s presence during the clean up shows that Palauans are not ignorant, as many have claimed.“Mrs. Yano’s participation is an example of who we are,” Teliu said. “Citizens of Ngaraard State are dedicated people and we worked, not because we were asked to, but because we are committed to our leadership and to the principles that bind us together.”Both sides of the section of the Compact Road – approximately 13 miles of road – that runs through Ngaraard State has been bush-whacked, macheted, raked, and air-blown clean.
