THE Commonwealth Ports Authority on Thursday granted Marianas Meat Harvesting Corp. or MMHC a concession to develop and operate Echo Dock in Lower Base.

The dock located across from the Division of Fish and Wildlife has been sitting idle for many years, CPA Board Chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds said.

Allowing a private company to develop and operate the dock is an opportunity to generate government revenue, she said, adding that CPA is happy that the Echo Dock project will finally move forward.

Following the awarding of the concession, King-Hinds said CPA’s management team will now negotiate an agreement with the investor.

She said CPA has also asked the assistance of external parties such as engineers and other professionals to evaluate MMHC’s proposal.

In a separate interview, MMHC President Kim Hong Kyun said they plan to invest $1 million to develop Echo Dock. They will build a marina, a lighthouse and a restaurant on the property, he added.

MMHC, the same company that has a concession agreement with the Department of Public Lands to operate Managaha, was the only investor that presented a proposal to develop and operate Echo Dock.

CPA and MMHC have 14 days beginning Thursday to come up with an agreement, which includes the annual rent amount.
