(Wednesday, May 24, 2023 – Rota, CNMI) – The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation (CUC) would like to remind the community of Rota of the importance of prioritizing water conservation and rationing during this critical time. As of 6 p.m. yesterday evening, CUC took the precautionary safety measures in anticipation of heavy rainfall through the night and turned off the main water supply from the Rota Main Cave to avoid potential contamination during high turbidity (clearness of the water) levels caused by heavy rainfall. As of 8 a.m. this morning, CUC has restored the main water supply from the Rota Main Cave to continue water services to the community. Water services to the Rota community will be turned off today at 2 p.m. or sooner depending on weather conditions to prevent any potential contamination from high turbidity caused by the heavy rainfall from entering the water distribution system.
CUC is requesting all Rota residents and establishments to continue to conserve and store water in tanks or containers if you have not already done so. By conserving and rationing your water usage during the typhoon, this will ensure you have water for your essential needs until water services to the community is restored after the typhoon event.
As Typhoon Mawar passes through the Mariana Islands, field staff will stand down until the “all-clear” is issued by the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to ensure the safety of the CUC operators who are working diligently to maintain critical power, water and wastewater services for the community.
