House Ways and Means Committee Chair Ralph N. Yumul presides over a meeting earlier this month in the House chamber.
THE House Committee on Ways and Means postponed the budget hearings set for today, Wednesday, and tomorrow, Thursday, due to Typhoon Mawar.
The committee scheduled budget hearings for the Department of Public Works at 1 p.m., today, Wednesday, and for the Department of Corrections at 10 a.m. Thursday.
In an interview on Tuesday, Ways and Means Committee Chair Ralph N. Yumul said they had to postpone the budget hearings as a “precautionary” measure following Gov. Arnold I. Palacios’ memorandum ordering the closure of government offices effective 12:30 p.m. Tuesday because of Tropical Storm Condition I.
Yumul said a budget hearing will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday for the Department of Public Safety. On Tuesday next week, the budget hearing for the Department Finance will start at 10 a.m., and at 1 p.m. for the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
On Wednesday next week, the budget hearing for the Department of Labor will start at 10 a.m., and at 1 p.m. for the Marianas Visitors Authority.
Yumul said the budget hearings for DPW and Corrections will be rescheduled for late next week.
For its part, the Senate Committee on Judiciary. Government and Law also canceled its meeting scheduled at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, in the Senate chamber.
In her memorandum, the committee’s chair, Sen. Celina R. Babauta, said the meeting was canceled until further notice.
