Deer conservation bill introduced by Rep. San Nicolas

(Press Release) — Tinian Rep. Patrick H. San Nicolas has introduced legislation that will prohibit deer hunting for up to two years on Tinian. House Local Bill 22-20 ensures that ample supply of food sources will be protected for current and future generations.

“Although our deer population is not as numerous as our neighbors in Rota, I feel that what little we have on Tinian should be allowed to grow and flourish. I’m currently increasing my efforts to help all native plants and wildlife to thrive on Tinian while maintaining a balanced ecosystem for the benefit of the environment and for future generations to enjoy,” he said.

His office is also looking into grants and awards that can be given to Tinian to expand education and outreach, increase research and maintenance of wildlife and vegetation.

San Nicolas added, “The deer are not native, they got to Tinian decades ago. We want to make sure they thrive and be a part of our island and eco- system, and we must nurture their growth.”

House Local Bill 22-20 will be introduced at the next House session on Aug. 3, 2021 at 1:30 p.m.
