E-Waste Management Program eyed

Solid Waste Management Coordinator John Ngiraked Jr., said the E- waste or the electronic waste is one of the program they are planning which will be in coordination with the manufacturers.

He said under the program the manufacturers will buy their disposed products and of throwing it , Ngiraked said the program will enable the consumers to sell it to the manufacturers.

He said the aim of the program is to reduce the volume of garbage being dumped at the landfill and to give some source of income for the consumers.

Ngiraked said that the landfill can no longer accommodate large volume of garbage for the next couple of years and recycling is the best way to extend the lifespan of the landfill.

Meanwhile the construction of 30 waste segregation stations of the Koror State Government funded by Japan government is still in the process.

Ngiraked said they are still working on the land lease with the private sector before they start the project.

Japan government through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) granted $38,250 for the construction of additional waste segregations stations project.

This project will enable each household in Koror to segregate waste effectively.
