EDJAY Jaime Sablan, a former Department of Public Safety traffic/patrol division officer, has been sentenced by the federal court to serve 97 months or just over eight years in prison for child pornography.
At the sentencing hearing on Friday, Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the District Court for the NMI said Sablan, upon completing his sentence, will submit to a five-year supervised release and comply with conditions, which include 40 hours of community service at the direction of the U.S. Probation Office.
But community service will be suspended if Sablan is gainfully employed full-time, the judge added.
The judge likewise ordered the defendant to pay a special assessment fee of $100, which must be paid immediately after sentencing.
After the sentencing, Sablan was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Following Sablan’s guilty plea on June 3, 2021, the federal court unsealed the indictment against him.
On Jan. 20, 2021, a grand jury indicted Sablan and charged him with one count of child pornography, and one count of receipt of child pornography.
After he pled guilty to one count of child pornography, the judge dismissed count II of the indictment.
According to the indictment, on or about Jan. 6, 2021, Sablan did knowingly possess a visual depiction of a sexually explicit conduct involving a minor that had been acquired via the internet.
The indictment also stated that Sablan, on or about Nov. 4, 2019, did knowingly receive child pornography via the internet.
Sablan was represented by court appointed attorney Robert T. Torres while Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric O’ Malley appeared for the federal government.
According to court documents, on or about Jan. 6, 2021, the defendant knowingly possessed a laptop computer, which contained over 75 video files depicting child pornography.
