Fiji tourism industry stronger than ever

NADI (Fiji Live/Pacnews) — Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka said the tourism industry is ready to receive over one million visitors into the country, surpassing 2023 record levels.

Speaking at the 2024 Fiji Investment in Tourism Summit, Gavoka said the numbers have been crunched: Fiji has been tracking well, and the economy has returned to its pre-pandemic level.

Gavoka said: “In 2023, the industry broke visitor arrival records and welcomed 929,740 visitors who contributed an estimated F$3.2 billion (US$1.8 billion) to the Fijian economy.”

“It is safe to say, that tourism remains our growth driver and where the opportunities are,” he added.

The deputy prime minister highlighted the government’s intention to appease investors who want to take advantage of the market and get real value for money on returns on their investment.

Gavoka said the government is extending the short life investment package tax holiday to investors who acquire existing hotels and undertake renovations and refurbishments of more than F$50 million (US$25 million).

He said they have also increased their marketing budget through Tourism Fiji and will continue to strategically drive reforms to make it easier for investors to invest in Fiji and the Fijian brand.
