Filipino helper returns back to RP

Ambassador Ramoncito S. Marino, in an interviewsaid Eva Acedo was sent to the Philippines on Fridayafter forging anamicable settlement betweenthe two parties.

Marino saidAcedowent to his officeon Thursday morningand filed a complaint against her employer Kailani Kinney.

He said that according to Acedo , her employerstruck her on thehead with the telephone while thelatter was drank.

Acedosustained head numbness and bruises on her body, based on her medical examination.

The Embassy advised her to file a complaint to the policeagainst her employer but Kinney went to the Embassy’s office andtalked with the victim.

Marino said, Kinney asked forgiveness to Acedo and settled their misunderstanding

“The employer bought her ticket and gave her salary. Acedo slept at the Embassy on Thursday night andleft for the Philippines the following day.” Marino said.

Acedo was five months employed with Kinney. She arrived in Palau on September 2009 as a domestic helper.

Marino said physical abuse for Pinoy workers is a rare case . Most of the problems usually received by the Embassy arecomplaints ofbeingunderpaid,overtime without pay . However, the Philippine Embassy is working on the matter to avoidsuch problems facedbyOverseas Filipino Workersin Palau.
