Dwight Alexander,Director of the Bureau of Arts and Culture said the organizing committee has been collectingand procuring exhibition items and materials for display at World Expo which is scheduled on May 1 to Oct. 31 of this year.
He said Palau’a booth in the World Expo will feature the country’s culture and traditions through photographs, handicrafts, storyboards and dances.
“We will also be featuring key items Palauans use in their daily lives,” Alexander said.
These are in the form ofproducts used in taro planting, model canoes to depict the mode of transportation Palau used in the olden days.
Alexander said he will be flying to Shanghai two weeks before the scheduled expo.
During the national day celebration which will be held on Oct. 23, they will be flying male and female traditional dancers to Shanghai
Palau thru Executive Order 278 has established on February 11 a National Organizing Committee that will plan, organize and administer all preparations for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and coordinate activities with the World Expo Organizing team as well as the Forum Island Countries secretariat and the South Pacific Tourism Organization.
As a member of the World Expo Committee, Palau must have a Commissioner General and a Committee to organize its participation in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and other subsequent expositions it will attend in the future.
The National Committee will coordinate with government agencies, associations, non-governmental organizations, private sectors and individuals that will have interest in exhibiting dances, performances, manufactured products, artworks, handicrafts, souvenirs and all other items at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
The National Committee was also tasked to develop plans for the celebrations of the Palau National Day on October 23 at the Shanghai World Expo.
Upon agreement of the FIC Chief Executives, all participating Pacific Island Countries will have one Pacific Pavilion within which all FIC countries will have a country booth each. Palau as a member of the FIC was allotted one private booth.
China has agreed to support the FIC countries by providing $600,000 in-kind assistance for each participating country from FIC.
This year’s theme for the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition is “Better City, Better Life.”
