Finance chief complies with House subpoena duces tecum

FINANCE Secretary David DLG Atalig on Monday complied with the subpoena duces tecum that the House Ways and Means Committee issued against him last month.

The committee chairman, Rep. Donald Manglona, said they received the documents pertaining to the CNMI government’s expenditures of American Rescue Plan Act funds around 4 p.m. Monday, or an hour before the deadline.

Manglona said they were still reviewing the documents as of 5 p.m. Monday.

He said his committee wanted to know “where we are at with ARPA right now, how much has been expended and how much do we have left for the next fiscal year?”

Manglona said his committee issued a subpeona duces tecum because Atalig did not send them the documents that the Finance secretary promised to provide during one of the budget hearings earlier this year.

The last time they heard from Atalig was in June, Manglona said.

He added that the committee wants Finance to help identify additional funds for agencies that were not provided federal assistance.
