(CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency) — Based on information received Monday morning from the National Weather Service on Guam, monsoon showers will continue to dump locally heavy rain on Rota, Tinian and Saipan for the next few hours.
At 8:17 a.m., Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 1.6 inches of rain have fallen.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Garapan, Dandan, China Town, Tanapag, As Mahetog, Koblerville, San Jose (Tinian), Chalan Kanoa, Sinapalo, San Antonio, San Roque, Kagman, Gualo Rai, Afetnas, Chalan Piao and Fananganan.
Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres is advising residents of Saipan, Tinian and Rota that flooding can become life-threatening very quickly. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Monitor conditions in your area and the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued.
