Governor nominates Pacific Rim’s Keith Stewart to trade school board

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres last week nominated Pacific Rim President Keith Stewart to serve on the board of trustees of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute.

If his appointment is confirmed, Stewart will serve the remaining term of Richard Kautz who resigned last year. Kautz, who represented the business community on the NMTI board, will expire on March 11, 2023.

Stewart’s appointment requires the consent of the Senate.

In his letter to Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider, the governor said he is confident in Stewart’s leadership to carry out the mandates of the board of trustees in the administration of NMTI.

The Senate president has referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigations. In his letter to the EAGI committee chair, Sen. Frank Q. Cruz, Hofschneider said, “Your committee’s timely action to this request is greatly appreciated.”

Stewart is among the 16 people on the list that the NMTI nomination committee submitted to the governor on Nov. 9, 2021.

The nomination committee was chaired by NMTI trustee Catherine Attao.

The governor likewise re-nominated NMTI trustee Irene Holl whose term will expire on March 11. If confirmed, Holl will serve another four-year term that will expire on March 11, 2026.
