GPA generator stolen last month recovered

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — A Guam Power Authority generator reported stolen about a month ago was recovered by police today.

In a press release issued by the Guam Police Department this morning, spokesperson Officer Berlyn Savella provided an update on the theft of a GPA generator, which was reported stolen Oct. 12.

The generator, which was a 150-kilowatt Daehun Generator, was mounted on a triple axle trailer when it was reported stolen from the D28 water well station in the Dededo area.

Following the theft, GPD, GPA and with Guam Waterworks Authority worked together to locate and retrieve the stolen unit.

While the generator was missing, agencies involved were “committed to ensuring the uninterrupted provision of clean water to the area,” GPD’s press release stated.

On Wednesday, the generator was located after GPA provided a report to GPD’s Dededo Precinct, which found the generator along Route 28, or Ysengsong Road, “in a heavily vegetated area along Chalan Palauan,” according to Savella.

“The generator’s condition remains uncertain due to damages inflicted during and after the theft, impacting its operability,” Savella explained in the release before adding the generator was crucial to supplying water to residents in the Dededo area.

“The 150KW Daehun Generator serves as a crucial backup power source for high-production water well supplying water to residents in the area,” Savella added.

Although the generator has now been recovered, the investigation remains open and ongoing.

“Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Guam Police Department at 671-475-8615, 8156, or 8157. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated,” the release stated.
