Grotto averaged over 100 visitors a day in August and September, says Max Aguon

MARCELINO “Max” Aguon, an employee of the Division of Parks and Recreation-Department of Lands & Natural Resources, said the Grotto, a popular diving spot, averaged over 100 visitors a day in August and September.

“In August, local tour agents brought 3,437 visitors to the Grotto and there were also 1,587 local visitors in the same month,” he told Variety.

In September, “local tour agents brought 4,344 visitors to the Grotto which was also visited by 1,333 locals,” he added.

Since he was assigned to the Grotto in May, Aguon said that he has been providing security while maintaining the site, including making sure there is water in the tank for the restroom.

He has also planted the area with fruit trees: lemon, mango, pomegranate, atis or sweet-sop, avocado, guava and papaya.

Recently, he said, he planted palm trees.

“Taking care of our environment will make a good impression on tourists visiting our island,” he added as he urged other community members to do their part in beautifying Saipan.
