Over 29% have already voted

TODAY, Tuesday, Nov. 8, is Election Day, but over 29% of the CNMI’s registered voters had already cast their ballots as of Sunday, according to the Commonwealth Election Commission.

The CNMI has 19,275 registered voters of whom 5,550 have cast their ballots since the early voting period started on Nov. 1. This figure does not include the votes cast on Monday, Nov. 7, the last day of early voting.

On the ballot are the candidates for governor, lt. governor, delegate to the U.S. Congress, attorney general, senators, House members, mayors, municipal council members, Board of Education members and the retention of two judges and one justice.

Republican Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and his running mate Senate Floor Leader Vinnie Sablan tout their party’s “vision and resilience” while their Democratic opponents, Reps. Tina Sablan and Leila Fleming Staffler vowed to provide “trusted leadership.”

As for the Independent tandem of Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios and his running mate, Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, they promise to “rebuild trust” in the government.
