The same resolution also commended the Guam legislator for her efforts, assistance and friendship to the Republic of Palau.
The resolution, which was introduced by Senator Joel Toribiong and unanimously passed in the Senate, states that the Republic of Palau has many close friends throughout the Pacific and Micronesia Region.
It said that among those many close friends of the Republic is Senator Barnes.
“This is a way of saying thank you to those who cares for Palau and its people,” Toribiong said.
The resolution pointed out the contributions of the Guam senator to the well being of Palauans in Guam.
The Honorable Senator Tina Rose Muna-Barnes contributions to Palauans in Guam include the introduction and passage of what is now Public Law 29-156 which provides the opportunity for both the Peleliu Club of Guam and the Asahi Association of Guam to obtain 25 year land leases for their association, part of the resolution reads.
Additionally it cited the senator from Guam for introducing Resolution 238 adopted by the Guam Legislature commemorating the independence of Palau.
“Be it resolved by the Senate of the Eight Olbiil Era Kelulau, with the House of Delegates concurring, that on behalf of the people of the Republic of Palau, the Olbiil Era Kelulau hereby confers the honor and title of “Honorary Citizen of Palau” to the Honorable Tina Rose Muna-Barnes,” the resolution concludes.
Aside from Barnes, copies of the resolution will also be forwarded to Palau President Johnson Toribiong, Senate President Mlib Tmetuchl and House of Delegates Speaker Noah Idechong.
Senator Barnes is serving her second term in the 30th Guam Legislature where she chairs the Committee on Municipal Affairs, Aviation, Housing and Recreation.
In the Guam Legislature, Barnes has championed bills addressing issues such as environment, gender and empowering local and municipal governments.
Prior to being elected member of the 30th Guam Legislature, Barnes worked for 15 years at the Guam Public Defenders Services Corporation (PDSC).
