Head Start Orients Parents

The PHSP has 13 centers through out Palau that provides services to 509 students.  The number of students – pursuant to Federal mandates – cannot increase to more than 509.

According to PHSP staff, there are 714 parents/guardians listed who are registered as caretakers of the 509 students.  All of theses parents/guardians are expected to attend the parent orientation to learn about PHSP and to familiarize themselves with the programs services and procedures.PHSP staff said that the parent orientation workshop covers governance of the program, education, child health and safety, child nutrition, child mental health, family partnerships, community partnerships, transition, disability, human resources, facilities, and transportation.  Further, during the workshop all the heads of the different divisions of BHSP will be able to answer any questions raised specific or related to a particular division.PHSP began conducted a parent orientation for Ngarchelong and Ngaraard Head Start Centers on September 30.  51 parent/guardians of both of the centers were able to attend the workshop that was held at Ulimang, Ngaraard.  PHSP oriented 57 parents/guardians of Ngiwal, Melekeok, and Ngchesar Centers yesterday at Bai Lechesau, Melekeok.PHSP staff further added that similar orientations will be conducted for Ngeremlengui and Aimeliik Centers on October 7; Olbedekall Center on October 8; Ngermid Center on October 9; Ngerbeched Center on October 14; Madalii Center on October 15; Peleliu Center on October 16, and Meyuns Center on October 21.PHSP staff said that they hope to answer all parent questions during these orientation workshops.
