The victim identified as Kayla Kimberly Naboliy Ngiraungil was pronounced dead by attending physician Dr. Sylvia Osarch.
The suspect identified as Kota Kobari, 28, employee of Aqua Magic Palau, a Tour Agency in Malakal, is now detained at the Division of Corrections while investigation is ongoing.Bureau of Public Safety Director Norvert H. Yano said that the incident happened on September 29 at 11:41 p.m. on Ernguul Highway, in front of Furusato Restaurant in Ngerbeched.Yano said Kobari was driving a White LiteAce van when it hit the victim.The suspect fled the scene immediately but was apprehended later by Patrol Officers.Ngiiraungil was impaired on the construction side of the road.The vistim was a freshman student at Palau Community College (PCC) and was working at Yuhi Motel.The officers placed the suspect under arrest at the crossroad to Ngermid and Airai.Yano said upon arrest, the van driven by Kobari showed obvious major damages on the windshield, right front and bottom fender and a broken lens on the right signal light.An autopsy will be conducted this week.
