Senate Bill No. 7-255, SD2, HD1 called for an additional seven years term for the Land Court and an additional one year for the Bureau of Land and Surveys.
The current law stated that the Land Court expires on Feb. 11, 2009 while the BLS work ends on Oct. 30, 2008.The bill wants the Land Court work extended up to Feb. 11, 2016 while the BLS is going to be extended up to Oct. 30, 2009.The BLS cadastral work was supposed to have expired on Aug. 11 and the Congress voted to extend it.Changes were made to RPPL 7-26 which mandates that after Aug. 11, 2008 monumentation, cadastral work and filing of claims will no longer be part of the BLS work. The work of land registration employees included the registration claims, issuing the required notices, providing the Land Court with the required information for Land Court hearings and providing temporary and permanent mapping of land parcel and boundaries with respect to the ownership of the land. The House approved the bill on Oct. 22 and the Senate passed it on final and third reading yesterday. If no changes are made by both houses, the measure will then be sent to President Remengesau for signature.
