Inmate gets 10 years for aggravated assault

Suzuki Temael entered a plea agreement on November 12 and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and robbery charges as charged in the counts one and eight of the information.

Temael was charged with aggravated assault, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, escape, burglary, grand larceny, malicious mischief and robbery.

In exchanged of his guilty plea, the government agreed to dismiss the other charges.

Temael admitted that he escaped from jail on August 16 and went to the Happy Fish market at around 2:30 am.

On his way to buy a beer, he got into disagreement with the victim, a security guard at the Happy Fish Market.

He got a stick and attacked the guard with it and broke the glass door of the establishment with the stick.

Temael admitted that he entered the Happy Fish Market and stole liquor then fled afterwards.

Associate Justice Alexandra Foster accepted the defendant’s guilty plea and sentenced him to twenty years of imprisonments all suspended except for ten years.

The defendant will serve ten years in jail which will run concurrent with his present sentence in his Cr case 08-045.

The court ordered that after serving his ten years sentence, he would be on probation for ten years.

While on probation, he would testify against his co-defendant Uldak Sakuma and against the two corrections officers Douglas Tkel and Toribiong Sakaziro.

Temael was ordered to stay away from Happy Fish Market and from the guard Tohedul Islam and to pay any restitution which amount has yet to be determined by the Probation office.

Temael is currently serving a sentence for his CR 08-045 case and was detained in jail when he escaped last August 16 and burglarized the establishment and attacked the guard.

Temael’s co-defendant Uldak Sakuma was charged with accessory after the fact to escape, aiding and abetting grand larceny and obstruction of justice.

A police affidavit filed in court stated that police received a report of an injured person at the Happy Fish Market.

When police responded to the scene they found the security guard with injuries.

The guard was immediately transported to the hospital. He suffered bone fractures and hematoma and hemorrhage in the tempo parietal area.

The court document further stated that Sakuma was engaged in drinking session earlier when Temael appeared.

Sakuma knew that Temael escaped from jail that evening. Temael told Sakuma that he needed a car.

Sakuma borrowed a friend’s car and dropped off Temael at the Happy Fish Market and waited for the latter at the car.

Sakuma fell asleep and was awakened by a sound of yelling. He saw Temael putting a container into the back seat of the car.

Sakuma then drove off the car but abandoned it later and fled on foot from the pursuing police.

Temael on the other hand swam to RITC and was given a ride back to the place where Sakuma was drinking earlier.

Temael returned later to his unlocked jail cell.
