Japanese residents celebrate New Year’s

The event held at Palasia Hotel was sponsored by the Embassy of Japan.

Kunio Nakamura, Embassy of Japan’s Charge d’Affaires said that “the event was a good occasion to exchange comments between and among Japanese residents, especially if they work for different businesses in Palau.  The New Year’s Party was a common venue for all of them, which was sponsored by the Embassy of Japan.”Nakamura said that  Japan is confident that its relationship with  Palau will further be strengthened especially with a new Palau president.He said he is looking forward to President Johnson Toribiong’s economic policy of bringing in more foreign investment in Palau.”The new President (Mr. Toribiong) said that the most important agenda are: first, the encouragement of tourism as a part of business revitalization in Palau; second, education; and third, environmental protection.  Also, they would like to strengthen relations with Japan just like before. So we are very much encouraged.  And we are also expecting his concrete implementation to improve the investment environment for foreigners in Palau, “  Nakamura said.Nakamura said the embassy also have plans of upgrading its embassy hereHe added that the Japanese government  is also considering the deployment of high-skilled Japanese people through the Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) as foreign volunteers in developing countries.
