Karo, 24, from Hula and Gabagaba in Central, beat six other contestants to take the crown at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Port Moresby last Friday.
Karo will represent PNG as its cultural ambassador at the Miss South Pacific pageant in Samoa next month.
The black-tie event was packed to capacity with sponsors, relatives and guests witnessing the crowning of PNG’s first cultural ambassador as Miss South Pacific PNG.
The contestants were judged in five categories: Bilum wear, sarong wear, talent, traditionally-inspired attire and stage interviews.
As Miss PNG 2011, Karo received $3,700, a lounge suite and a flat screen television and a trip to Samoa.
She won the competition for the best traditionally inspired attire, Miss Tourism, Miss People’s Choice and best sarong wear.
