The 2023 Regenerative Agriculture Workshops happen across four days. According to a media release, the free workshops’ intended audience are growers, homeowners, educators, entrepreneurs, families and more.
All workshops take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Resort.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture website, agroforestry is the “intentional integration of trees and shrubs into crop and animal farming systems to create environmental, economic, and social benefits.”
Below is the workshop schedule:
–May 30, “Family Food Forest,” an introduction to regenerative food forests for family food and nutrition.
–May 31, Agroforestry and commercial farming.
–June 1, “Mama Food Forest,” regenerative organic textile, herbal and food forests; open to mothers, fathers, children, and social workers.
–June 3, a hands-on field demonstration at the Kagman Ma’afala Breadfruit Plantation; participants will gain practical knowledge of growing and managing food forests.
Jesse Ray Deleon Guerrero, an agroforestry and food and nutrition security extension agent with NMC-CREES, said these workshops are for community members interested in growing food in a way that enhances “biodiversity, soil health, and climate resilience.”
“I believe that by embracing regenerative agricultural practices such as agroforestry, we honor our culture and connection to nature as environmental stewards, and ultimately strengthen our island’s food and nutrition security,” Deleon Guerrero said.
