OVER a dozen women on Saturday attended a discussion on “Empowering Yourself for the New Year.”
The event was hosted by Lip Gloss — Where Women Empowerment Transcends, a non-profit organization to empower, educate and employ women of different backgrounds, races, cultures, social status, including those with disabilities.
It was the group’s first table discussion since Lip Gloss was organized and incorporated on Dec. 31, 2021.
The group’s founder and chief executive officer is former Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Executive Director Maryann Borja. The board members are Frances Santos, president; Darsha Camacho, vice president; Tiana Villagomez, secretary; Hazel Nicole Sadian, treasurer; and Rafaela Enoé Fiallos Bertrand, public information officer.
Over a dozen women attended the discussion on Saturday. Among them was Senate Floor Leader Corina L. Magofna.
Santos shared her thoughts about spending quality time for oneself while Borja inspired the participants with a success story.
Camacho talked about handling stress as a full-time mother while Villagomez explained how she sets goals and intentions for the year ahead.
Sadian, for her part, discussed the importance of being well-organized and how it improves one’s productivity.
Senator Magofna said she was very happy to learn that Borja founded Lip Gloss because it is very important “that we help our women, especially our young women — we should mold them, develop them, guide them.”
Lip Gloss, she added, can provide a very positive foundation for women. It can uplift them and empower them so they can become self-sufficient, independent, and contributing citizens to the community, Magofna said.
Another participant, Connie Basa, who is a retiree, said Lip Gloss “allows us to be there for the young generation.”
