PIECES of trash were seen Saturday at Old Man by the Sea, one of the island’s most famous hiking spots and tourist destinations.
The garbage consisted of food scraps, food containers, empty plastic bottles, tin and metal scraps, among other items.
There were no trash bins in the area.
Senate President Edith Deleon Guerrero, in a recent presentation at a Saipan Chamber of Commerce meeting, emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of tourist destinations.
“We talk about becoming a world-class destination…when our tourist sites are dilapidated. We don’t even want to bring our own children there,” she said.
The CNMI has an anti-littering law, but it is seldom enforced.
