TWO men were charged in federal court for allegedly engaging in the illegal sale of guns on Saipan.
Zheng Jian Shan, 28, and Lin Wan Biao, 32, were indicted for conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and dealing in firearms without a license.
Shan was also charged with three counts of possession of firearm and ammunition by an illegal alien.
U.S. District Court Judge Alex R. Munson ordered no bail for the defendants as recommended by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Smith.
On Feb. 28, 2001 in Garapan, according to court papers filed by the U.S. government, Shan negotiated the sale of a .38 cal. Smith and Wesson revolver, an AK-47 assault rifle, and a MAC-10 .45. cal. pistol. Shan and Biao allegedly sold that day a .45. cal. RPB Industries M-10 semi-automatic pistol to another person in Garapan. On the same day, Biao allegedly delivered a .38 cal. Smith and Wesson revolver to an apartment in Garapan.
The defendants allegedly engaged in the business of dealing in firearms without a license.
