2 nabbed for stabbing man, assaulting cops

TWO intoxicated brothers allegedly stabbed a man and assaulted two police officers in Susupe on Sunday night.

John Sanchez, 25, and Dean Sanchez Santos, 20, were held for assault with a dangerous weapon, disturbing the peace, assault and battery and resisting arrest.

The victim, 26-year-old John P. Aquino, was stabbed on the left biceps, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Pete C. Muna.

Aquino told investigators that he, the suspects and some friends were drinking beer at his aunt’s residence in Susupe at 3 p.m.

Just before midnight, Aquino said Santos asked for a fight. When he refused, Santos started harassing other guests.

Aquino tried to calm down Santos, but Sanchez suddenly stabbed him with a knife. The suspects then fled, but after a few minutes they came back and began throwing rocks at the house.

Aquino’s family members came out and the suspects ran toward the church while throwing rocks at the house.

When the suspects saw Police Officer Vicente Babauta, they dropped the rocks and ran away. Other officers also arrived.

When Sanchez started cussing the officers, Babauta advised him to calm down, but the suspect continued shouting and cussing.

At this point, Babauta advised Santos to step back. Sanchez interfered and pushed the officer on the chest with his right hand and even tried to carry the officer.

Sanchez and Babauta fell down during the struggle. Sanchez was kicking Babauta on the thigh, police said.
