235 Hopwood students graduate from anti-drug abuse program

The DARE graduates, according to HJHS principal Christine Masga, is just a small part of the school’s population.

“We would like to see every student finish the DARE training, but with only one certified DARE instructor in the island, we can only do so much,” Masga said.

Capt. Lawrence Camacho, in his message on behalf of Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela, said the program aims to equip the students with knowledge on how to combat illegal drugs and other crimes on island.

“We have Police Officer Isa Bokuku to thank for training the students, but we hope to have more certified police officers to help her and get more students trained under the program,” Camacho said.

Commissioner of Education Rita Sablan expressed her full support for the program and assured the students that the Public School System is behind them.

She said her doors are open to give help so more students can join and graduate from the program.

DARE board president and Dandan Elementary School principal Jonas Barcinas, in his message, congratulated the students for becoming a part of the 16-year-old program.

“The CNMI nowadays is in constant danger of the occurrence of theft, drug abuse and other crimes, and some cases have gotten so extreme and have caused alarm to the community.” Barcinas said

“It is time to protect you, the students from the dangers of crime, drugs and violence,” he added.

Barcinas said he appreciates the efforts to help students become better citizens of the community.

“I hope the DARE program will continue to be something you hold close to your heart,” he added.
