3 Tinian casino commissioners resign

In August, the commissioners expressed their willingness to resign if the CNMI government would pay their retirement benefits.

On Sept. 24, Tinian agreed to pay the Fund over $1.9 million in deficient contributions based on a stipulation for judgment in Superior Court in favor of the pension agency.

The  Fund earlier sued Tinian to collect the deficient contributions.

Variety learned that Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz may appoint only one new commissioner due to the government’s financial problems.

Each commissioner gets  $100,000 a year in salary and benefits.

Variety was told that the municipal council believes that the commission can function with three members..

The two remaining commissioners are Ignacio K. Quichocho and Bernadita C. Palacios.

Conner said it is prudent and practical for the mayor to appoint one commissioner only as three members already constitute a quorum.
