4 NMC graduates to get achievement awards

The Academic Excellence Award is given to those graduating with the highest grade point average among the bachelor of science degree graduates: Lourdes Liane Hart and Keoni Deleon Guerrero Ichihara.

For the associate degree graduates, Nicole Deleon Guerrero Benjamin and Jan Michael Macaraeg Reyes will receive the award.

NMC President Carmen Fernandez is inviting graduates to become active members of the NMC-Alumni Association so they can continue to strengthen their ties with the college and their community.

“We are working individually with all the graduates to provide them with whatever assistance they need for their transition to full-time jobs, or for some, a transition into a four-year university,” she said.

The degrees and certificates that will be awarded at NMC’s graduation ceremony on Saturday include bachelor of science in elementary education; AA, liberal arts; AA, business; AS, nursing; AAS, criminal justice; AAS, hospitality management; certificate of completion, early childhood education; certificate of completion, related services technician; certificate of achievement, construction trades; and adult basic education.

There will also be graduates from the following programs: AAS, business administration in accounting emphasis, business management emphasis, computer applications emphasis, sales and marketing emphasis.

The graduation theme this year is “Cherish Yesterday, Dream Tomorrow, Live Today.”

The keynote address will be delivered by Commissioner of Education Rita Sablan.

Last year’s keynote speaker was Bank of Guam president and board chairwoman Lourdes Leon Guerrero.

Fernandez said the graduation ceremony provides the community an opportunity to join the college in celebrating the achievements of the students.

“We are extremely proud of the graduates who have worked hard to get this far,” she said.

Fernandez thanked the network of support that includes the graduates’ families, friends, classmates, instructors and others who have contributed to their success.

The planning for the graduation was conducted by the NMC Graduation Committee, headed by the college’s Office of Admissions and Records.
