5 months for assaulting ex-girlfriend

Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a five-month jail term on Manglona, with credit for the five months the defendant already served at the Department of Corrections facility.

The 30-year-old Manglona signed a plea agreement, and admitted committing assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

Manglona will attend and complete anger management sessions, a psychiatric evaluation and any other counseling recommended by the service provider of the Adult Probation Office.

He will  perform and complete 100 hours of community work service, and follow all federal and CNMI laws.

The court required Manglona to pay a $25 court assessment fee within 30 days, a $100 fine to be paid in full prior to the expiration of his probation, and a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.

Assistant Attorney General Shelli Neal prosecuted the case while Assistant Public Defender Michael C. Brown served as Manglona’s counsel.

The Attorney General’s Office said Manglona assaulted his girlfriend on Feb. 6, 2010 after breaking up with him the day before.

After authorities responded to a disturbance call at a residence in Chalan Kanoa, Manglona told police to leave because he was  about to go to  sleep.

Minutes later, police saw Manglona on the rooftop of the residence.

Manglona threatened to kill himself by placing both hands on a power line.

After his father persuaded the defendant to get down from the roof top, Manglona was arrested by police.
