55% of PSS high school graduates go to college

But this number went up based on a recent presentation by Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan who stated that 55 percent of the high school graduates went to post-secondary schools.

This was based on the survey conducted for the first time last year by PSS, which also showed that 30 percent of the graduates joined the military, while the remaining 15 percent joined the workforce.

518 students graduated from high school out of the 537 who enrolled at the beginning of classes.

Of the graduates, 255 said they planned to proceed to post-secondary school, while 22 percent or 115 graduates planned to join the military.

Nineteen percent or 96 graduates wanted to seek work or employment while 10 percent or 52 students did not reply to the survey.

Marianas High School had the most number of graduates last year with 196 or 90 percent of its 217 enrollees.

Kagman High School had 140 graduates or 98 percent of its 143 enrollees.

Saipan Southern High School had 104 graduates from an enrollment of 101 at the start of classes. It had additional students who enrolled during the middle of the school year.

Tinian High School had 41 graduates out of the 42 who enrolled at the start of the school year, while 37 students graduated from Rota High School from the 34 enrolled at the start of classes and the additional students who came in during the middle of the school year.
