NMI marks Police Week by ‘arresting’ Inos, other officials

They were allowed one phone call during their detention period, but they were  served food and water while in the “slammer.”

Former Commonwealth Development Authority  Chairman Juan S. Tenorio was arrested for being too generous.

A $50 bounty was offered for his arrest and he later paid a $400 cash bail.

Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos was held in custody for working over 40 hours each work-week; having an expired car license and registration; and for not having an insurance.

He posted a $100 bail.

For being behind the “Noise of the Marianas” and not wearing a tie during work hours, Marianas Visitors Authority Managing Director Perry Tenorio was booked and detained.

His cash bail was set at $150, which he paid.

Press Secretary Angel Demapan, who accompanied the arrested lt. governor, was handcuffed and arrested for not answering the Variety’s inquiries.

This reporter offered a $10 bounty for his “arrest” and  Demapan had to pay the same amount for his release.

During Inos’s  initial appearance, “Judge E-Loise” read the charges against the lt. governor, who asked if he could argue for himself.

The “judge” replied: “This is not a democracy,” provoking laughter among the police officers and other government officials inside the center.

“I will appeal,” a smiling Inos said as he denied the “charges.”

Inos praised DPS for holding a fun event for a “good cause.”

Also “arrested” yesterday were former press secretary and now local Census 2010 assistant manager Charles P. Reyes Jr. and Corrections Commissioner Ramon C. Mafnas.

Over 40 persons were arrested but the total amount of funds generated had yet to be counted when this reporter left the center.

The funds will be used for the celebration of  Public Safety Awareness  Month.

During the National Peace Officer Memorial Day commemoration on Wednesday, DPS honored the officers who died in the line of duty with a 21-gun salute, lighted candles and a wreath-laying ceremony: Resident Director John T. Barcinas, Capt. Tommy Alexander, Capt. Justino T. Arriola, Sgt. Julian A. Manglona, Officer Abraham S. Quitugua, Officer Gilbert M. Taisacan, Officer Wilgene T. Lieto, Firefighter Joe Charfauros, and Firefighter Joaquin M. Camacho.
