Associate Judge Perry B. Inos sentenced her to five years imprisonment, all suspended except for 67 days with credit for the seven days she already served at Department of Corrections facility.
Duenas will report to Corrections on Nov. 3 to start serving the remaining 60 days of her jail term.
Upon release from prison, Duenas will be placed on five years probation.
She will pay a $500 fine, a $100 court assessment fee, and a probation fee to be determined by the Adult Probation Office.
Duenas will pay $669 as restitution with interest starting on Dec. 4, 2010.
The restitution does not preclude the victim from seeking the remaining statutory damages pursuant to the Bad Checks Act, Inos said.
Duenas will also write a letter of apology to Han’s Corp. and to her daughter, Lauren T. Duenas.
She will obey all federal and CNMI laws.
Assistant Attorney General Eli Golob prosecuted the case, while Chief Public Defender Adam Hardwicke served as Lilian Duenas’ counsel.
In Dec 2009, Han’s Corp. reported an incident of misuse of bad checks to the police.
Last March, Lilian Duenas was arrested for stealing and forging her daughter’s checks.
