Another successful Eucon concert

Eucon International College acting director of institutional effectiveness Vilma S. Reyes said the concert was another huge success, attended by the student body, faculty, staff and guests.

She said the audience was impressed with all the 18 performances by various skilled and talented students faculty and staff.

Instruments played during the concert included the piano, the flute, the Chinese flute, the clarinet, the trumpet, the er’hu, the violin, the viola and the cello. The special guest was Dr. Yoh Shirato, a vocalist from Harvest Christian Academy on Guam.

Reyes said the pianists were JJ Rockstroh, the school’s secondary history teacher who started playing since he was 8, and also teaches private lessons; and RuthAnn Ledgerwood, Music and ESL teacher, who has been playing the piano and the violin since she was three — a violin teacher for almost eight years, she displayed her gracefulness and skillfulness in her performances; and Grace Yasa who started playing when she was seven and passed the 8th degree of the Guangdong amateur piano education exam when she was 13.

Entertaining the guests with their special talents with the Chinese flute were Elim Wu, Selena Li, and Joseph Ding. Caleb Wang played the clarinet; Isaac Sun, the trumpet; Winston Mao,  er’hu; Cathy Brier, viola; and Jasmine Chen, cello.

The five violinists were RuthAnn Ledgerwood, Christa, Christian Jr., Christianna and Christianne Wei, who were playing since their elementary years.

Reyes said last Saturday’s concert was the second event organized by the college student body as a fundraising event to sponsor the projects of the students. The first was the classical concert last April.

Events like these, she said, teach the college students responsibility, frugality and appreciation for the talents given by God.

She said Eucon plans to have two concerts a year: classical music in April and sacred music in November.

Sponsors for Saturday’s concert were the National Office Supply and Barny’s Pizza and Catering.

“The students, faculty and staff of Eucon International School would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the community for their patronage and to Dr. Shirato for gracing the event,” Reyes said.

Reyes is also inviting the community to come and join their Christmas program at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 where they will stage a play titled “The Last Wise Man.”
