Apatang, a Vietnam War veteran and former training officer for the U.S. Army in the NMI, said the officers from the 6th Recruiting Brigade were here to observe the recruitment process.

The mayor hopes that more young people will consider joining the U.S. military, especially those who want to go to college.
“It’s a good opportunity for them and a good career,” he added.
He noted that Saipan Southern High School’s JROTC instructor, retired Sgt. Maj. Richard Basa was one of his trainees.
