Environmental agencies visit San Antonio school

(SAES) — Not all schools were able to attend the Environmental Expo at the public library or the Kagman Community Center, but San Antonio took advantage of having the expo brought to its campus.

The Bureau of Environmental Health, the Coastal Resources, Management Office, the Historic Preservation Office, and the Division of Environmental Quality set up their display booths and engaged the over 300 San Antonio students.

Environmental Awareness Month outreach coordinator Jonathan I. Arriola said the event was very successful.

He observed that the students learned about the environment with a lot of enthusiasm.

Katrina Lizama, SAES principal, was also pleased of the event outcome.

“SAES vows to celebrate Earth Day with the EAM School Outreach every year from now on,” said Lizama.

In addition to the outreach, DEQ hauled 580 pounds of trash from the school beach to the transfer station.

Attention farmers

(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality is informing all farmers that, with the assistance of USEPA Region 9 Pesticide and Superfund Programs, an amnesty disposal for pesticide waste for Saipan, Tinian and Rota is scheduled for July 16–18.

Farmers will be given an opportunity to voluntarily submit their unwanted pesticides and farm-related hazardous wastes at one of the sites.

This amnesty program allows farmers to properly dispose of unwanted pesticides and other farm related hazardous wastes without any penalties.

Additionally, it is also designed to protect our precious water lens, which is our only source of drinking water.
