Our guest speakers are Albert Sampson, small business advisor, NavFac Marianas; and Eddie “Franc” Franklin Jr., small business specialist, 36 CONS Guam.

The presentation will be vital to small businesses on Tinian looking to do business in Guam either by selling produce, supplies, product or services to the U.S. military.

The two speakers are in charge of the Navy and Air Force small business procurement arms which aim to make sure small businesses are given opportunities to sell their product or services to the U.S. military on Guam.

Laolao vegetation project

(DLNR) — The Department of Lands and Natural Resources and its Divisions of Agriculture  and Fish and Wildlife, along with the Division of Environmental Quality, the Coastal Resources Management Office and local NGOs Beautify CNMI, MINA and Friends of the Marianas, have teamed up to re-vegetate a segment of the Laolao badlands.

The Laolao watershed project aims to reforest 27 acres in the Laolao area, categorized by the Laolao watershed project committee as “badland,”  CNMI Forester and Division of Agriculture acting Director Vic Deleon Guerrero said.

Badlands are open areas, and they threaten the marine ecosystem at Laolao bay with increased runoff and sedimentation.

“This is important in terms of erosion prevention and beautifying our island,” said Deleon Guerrero.

Recently, the team planted 100 Haigue (Cocos nucifera), five Chopak (Mamea odorata), five Joga (Elaeocarpus joga), 15 Puteng (Barrangtonia asiatica), five Banalo (Thespesia pulpunea), and five Hoda (Ficus tinctoria).

For more information, contact    Deleon Guerrero at 256-3301.

Puppies for adoption

(PAWS) — Five puppies seek a new and responsible home: two boys and three girls.

The puppies were born on Aug. 4, and will be ready for adoption on Friday, Sept. 10, 2009.

The adoptive parents are looking for responsible homes that will have the puppies spayed/neutered/fixed to prevent more unwanted animals on the islands.

If you are interested in adopting one or more of these little pups, contact Mark Hanson at 287-8600 or – 233-8600.

Chewy, a name given fondly by her foster parents because of her long hair, is a female boonie that is also up for adoption immediately.

Chewy is about 12 weeks old, has longer black hair and brown marks above her eyes.

She has been vaccinated, de-wormed, and treated for skin diseases.

She is now ready to be a member of a playful and responsible home.

If you can provide Chewy with a safe and loving environment, and veterinary care,  contact Rachel and Adam at 322-2104.
