Artists to sing the story of Chamorro music

The live shows will feature newer renditions of classic Chamorro songs as well as behind-the-music stories as told by the artists themselves. The evening’s performances will be recorded for a later DVD release.

The goal of the project is to preserve local music history while bridging the gap between generations by also featuring the successors to Guam’s musical legends.

The first in the series will headline Marianas Homegrown and the children of the late JD Crutch performing  classics such as Apo’ Magi, Guinaifon Manglo and Inner Voices.

The concert will take place at the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort on Feb. 4.

Tickets will be available starting Wednesday at JB’s Ukulele Hut in the Agana Shopping Center, Bestseller at the Micronesia Mall/GPO and Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort.

Tickets cost $65 each and include a merienda and wine tasting beginning at 6:30 pm.  Show seating will open at 7:45 pm.

Estorian Kantan Chamorro is produced by Patchwork Industries, a new company whose mission is to promote local art by combining different forms of media to create new products for Guam’s local market.

“We have partnered with the best local talent in video, music, and audio engineering for Estorian Kantan Chamorro to produce the highest quality DVD that Guam has to offer,” Promotions director Dee Cruz said.
