Auto-pedestrian incident involving 3-year-old

A police officer operating his personal vehicle was driving by and noticed the commotion, and immediately responded to the scene.

At the scene the officer immediately noticed a group of individuals yelling at one another. The officer rushed out of his vehicle to control the individuals. The officer learned from the individuals that the disturbance started from an auto-pedestrian accident involving a 3-year-old that occurred just a few minutes earlier.

The officer learned that the 3-year-old was playing in the neighbor’s yard with other kids when the homeowner’s daughter was returning from the store. The 19-year-old driver, noticed the kids playing in her parent’s yard and waited for them to clear away from the path of the vehicle before proceeding to continue up the driveway. As the driver began driving forward, the kids began hitting the vehicle and yelling “stop.” As soon as the driver exited their vehicle, they noticed an adult pulling a 3-year-old child from under the vehicle. Both families began arguing right before the officer arrived on the scene.

The 3-year-old was transported to the Commonwealth Health Center’s emergency room where the child was treated and admitted for further treatment. The child was reported to be in stable condition.

It was later found that the parents of the 3-year-old were visiting family in the area.

The driver was issued one citation consisting of two violations. This case remains under investigation.
